Good to Know to Optimize Surface Performance

How can I enhance the corrosion resistance of my metal parts?

To improve the corrosion resistance of metal parts, consider using electroplating or hot-dip galvanizing. Electroplating involves applying a thin metallic coating using an electrical current, which can protect against corrosion and enhance appearance.

Common metals used include zinc and nickel, which are particularly effective for corrosion resistance. Hot-dip galvanizing, on the other hand, involves dipping steel into molten zinc, forming a protective layer that is ideal for extreme environments, such as outdoor structures and guard rails.

For aluminum parts requiring enhanced wear resistance, anodic oxidation is a suitable choice. This process forms a hard, ceramic-like coating through electrolysis, which not only prevents corrosion but also significantly increases wear resistance.

Anodization can also be customized with dyes for aesthetic purposes. If additional hardness is needed, a thicker coating version can be specified to further protect the component from wear and tear

To enhance electrical conductivity, electroplating with metals like copper or silver is highly effective.

This process deposits a conductive layer onto the metal part, improving its electrical properties without altering its structural integrity. This treatment is particularly useful in electronics and telecommunications industries where high conductivity is crucial.

For components exposed to high temperatures, thermal spraying is an ideal solution. This process involves applying melted or heated materials onto the surface to create a protective barrier against heat.

It is commonly used as a thermal barrier coating in applications like exhaust systems and turbines to manage heat effectively and prolong component life.

Case Studies Custom Liquid Cold Plate

Custom Liquid Cold Plate

In this article, I’ll walk you through a real-world case from our company where we manufactured aluminum alloy cold plates for a client with stringent thermal management requirements. I’ll break down every key step in detail—from optimizing channel designs and executing ultra-precise CNC milling, to the critical vacuum brazing for sealing, and rigorous leak testing. This will demonstrate how we create high-performance heat dissipation components that not only efficiently remove heat and optimize system performance but also deliver absolute reliability to meet the client’s needs.

CNC Milling UK Market: Mirror Finish on 316L Stainless Steel Machined Parts

I work with 316L stainless steel regularly on CNC milling projects for the UK market, and it’s worth starting with what makes this grade special and why finishing it to a mirror polish is not straightforward. Here’s one of the projects. A UK-based medical device manufacturer required a 316L stainless steel material for its critical surgical instrument components, along with a mirror-polished finish achieving a Ra value of ≤0.1 μm. This type of surface treatment is crucial for reducing bacterial adhesion, enhancing corrosion resistance, and meeting the ISO 13485 standard for the UK medical industry. The core challenge of this project was to overcome the high hardness and work-hardening characteristics…

Copper Material Properties & Engineering Applications

Choosing the right metal for a precision component often comes down to a handful of engineering questions: How hard is it? How heavy is it? Will it conduct electricity or heat efficiently enough? This guide breaks down copper's core mechanical and physical properties, compares it against brass, aluminum, and steel, and shows where each material makes the most engineering sense.
